When you say a sound is high or low, you are talking about the pitch of the sound. A sound’s pitch depends on how many vibrations, or sound waves, happen in a second. Sounds with a high pitch have more vibrations each second than sounds with a low pitch. Try this experiment.
What You Need
- A ruler
- A desk or table
What You Do
- Hold the ruler against the desktop or tabletop with one hand. Position the ruler so that most of it is off the desk. Pluck the ruler. Watch and listen.
