One of the most famous towers in the world is the Eiffel Tower (say Eiffel like this: eye-ful). It is in the city of Paris in France. The Eiffel Tower is a place most people want to go to on their first visit to Paris. There are usually long lineups to go up the tower.
The Eiffel Tower is over 130 years old. When the tower was built, it was the tallest building in the world. Today, there are buildings that are much taller.
The Eiffel Tower is built of metal to make it strong. Notice that the bottom of the tower is much wider than the top. The wide bottom part helps keep strong wind from pushing the tower over.

The tower has three platforms, or floors, where people can go. Two platforms are in the bottom half of the tower. There is a small platform at the top of the tower.
The two platforms in the bottom half of the tower each have a restaurant. People climb stairs or use an elevator to get to these platforms. Only an elevator goes up to the top platform. From there, people can see all across Paris, which is a very big city.
At night, the Eiffel Tower is lit up by thousands of lights. It’s a beautiful sight to see! The lights stay on for just five minutes each hour.
