What materials will light pass through? Try this experiment to find out.


What You Need

  • A clear plastic or glass cup
  • A piece of wax paper
  • A piece of tissue paper
  • A piece of construction paper
  • A piece of aluminum foil
  • A flashlight

What You Do

  1. Read all the steps to understand what you will do. Before you do the next steps, write your predictions in the chart below.
  2. Place the objects in front of a wall. Shine the flashlight onto each of the objects. (Do one object at a time.)
  3. Observe what happens.
  4. Does the light pass through any of the objects? How much light passes through? Record your observations on a piece of paper.
