You can compare numbers using a place value chart.

Compare 36 270 and 34 283.

1. Write the numbers in the place value chart.

2. Start by comparing the digits in the ten thousands place. If the digit is the same, compare the digit in the thousands place, then the hundreds place, then tens place, and ones place if needed.

3. Choose the symbol (>, <, =) to complete the answer.
