Did you know that the first Canadian prime minister was not born in Canada? Sir John Alexander Macdonald immigrated to Canada from Scotland with his parents in 1820 at the age of five. He is best known for being one of the Fathers of Confederation in 1867, when the Dominion of Canada was formed. Sir John A. Macdonald was also responsible for promoting the building of railways across Canada, uniting Canada from sea to sea.
