Federal and Local Government

In Canada, many landscapes, climates, and natural resources affect how people live throughout the country. Some needs are the same in all communities, while other needs are different. For example, Regina, Saskatchewan, and Toronto, Ontario, need clean drinking water and a reliable postal system for their citizens. However, Regina might need an emergency plan for forest fires, while Toronto might need an emergency plan for snow removal after a bad snowstorm. The federal government can meet the need for these cities to have a reliable postal system. Local government is responsible for meeting the community’s unique needs, such as firefighting or snow removal.
