Ontario Curriculum Expectation:

5.C2.3 solve equations that involve whole numbers up to 100 in various contexts, and verify solutions.


An algebraic equation is a number sentence with an equal sign between an algebraic expression and a number.

Here is an example of an algebraic equation that means the difference of x and 9 is 12.

Solve an equation means find the value of the variable to make sure the two sides are equal.

Step 1:  Do the reversed operation on BOTH SIDES to solve.
