Share to Brightspace Continue with Brightspace

Ontario Curriculum Expectation:

4.D1.5 determine the mean and the median and identify the mode(s), if any, for various data sets involving whole numbers, and explain what each of these measures indicates about the data.

Mean

The mean is the average number in a set of numbers.

Find the mean by adding all the values together, then dividing by the total number of values you added together.

Example:

1,  6,  3,  8,  2

Step 1 – Add the values together: 1 + 6 + 3 + 8 + 2 = 20

Step 2 – Divide by the number of values in the set: 20 ÷ 5 = 4

The mean is 4.
