Create a Sunset

The Sun looks yellow. Why are sunsets red? Do this activity to find out.

• Clear glass bowl
• Water
• Spoon
• Few drops of low-fat milk
• White note paper
• Flashlight

What You Do

1. Fill the bowl with water.
2. Hold up the piece of paper on one side of the bowl. Hold the flashlight on the other side of the bowl.
3. Shine the light through the water so that the light hits the paper. Record what you see.
4. Use the spoon to add a few drops of milk until the water looks cloudy.
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3. Record what you see.
